ARMA, stylized as ARMA, is a series of first-person tactical military shooters originally developed for Microsoft Windows. The series emphasizes realism and simulation, combining large-scale military operations across expansive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The inaugural installment was released in 2006, with subsequent titles emerging until 2013. Over time, ARMA games have expanded their platforms to include Microsoft Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.
The first game, titled *ARMA: Armed Assault* (known as *ARMA: Combat Operations* in the United States), was launched for Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, February 2007 across Europe, and May 2007 in the United States. It was built on the Real Virtuality 2 engine. The latest installment, *ARMA 3*, is a standalone title for Windows, released on September 12, 2013, powered by the more advanced Real Virtuality 4 engine. It initially became accessible to the public via Steam’s Early Access program on March 5, 2013. Between late 2015 and early 2016, *ARMA 3* was also released in earlier versions for Linux and Mac, with plans to synchronize these versions with the Windows experience later on.
